We bought Mario Party 8 last week, since we were going to have visitors. My nephews and nieces came up with my sister and brother-in-law for a short visit, and I knew the kids would want to play Wii games.MP8 is a fun game, with the flavor of the older Mario Party versions. Some games don’t make full use of the Wiimote, but overall, it’s very fun. In my opinion, Nintendo needs to work on more cooperative/party games for multiple players. |

For those playing Zelda, or other sword-fighting type games, here’s something I saw in Fry’s last week. Strange stuff
Hard to see in the thumbnail, but it’s a sword and shield for the wiimote and nunchuck. Click image for a bigger view.

Well, I’ve finally played through all the levels of the Tanks game in Wii Play. This is a really fun game that left me wishing there were more levels. As a “warning” to those who are playing through Wii Play Tanks, the final level contains two tanks that go invisible when the round starts. Luckily, their bullets aren’t invisible.

Last week, in the GameStop store in the mall, I saw a funny-sounding game with a crazy premise: Cooking Mama is the game, and using the Wiimote to virtually “cook” meals is the wacky idea.
Yesterday, during a long shopping spree with my wife, we happened to go by the store again. I suggested that she look at the game and we wound up buying it.We played a couple of recipes last night and it was a lot of fun. They have done a great job of mixing up different types of things you can do with the Wiimote: twisting to turn the over control, shaking to add spices, “stirring” “chopping” “pouring” and more. My wife made a soup (peeling the vegetables with a “peeler” motion was really funny) and then we did a head-to-head competition making custard. One silly part was getting the custard out of the mold. You have to turn it over and shake the Wiimote just the right amount. Too gently and the custard doesn’t come out, too hard and it breaks.Overall, this is a fun game. Maybe not as fun as Elebits (which is a bit more of a “guy game”) but I think it’s a keeper

Here’s a look at a big project that Jennifer and I just completed.
Here’s our Sharp 37″ flat-screen TV, wall-mounted. The existing switch on that wall I converted to a plug, and I put in two rings to hold “media outlets” — one behind the TV and one down at the standard plug level. Then I threaded the three cables (HDMI, Wii, audio) through the wall. The TV is mounted with a very-low-profile VESA mount (less than 1″ clearance required) that I got through Amazon. The Wii sensor bar is barely noticeable on the top of the set.
Here’s the storage ottoman we made. It’s an 18 x 16 x 16 rectangle, covered in silk fabric. It has two 2-1/4″ desk grommets in the back–one for AC power cords and the other for the data cables. Four 2″ holes in the bottom and the four grommets provide air movement for passive cooling, allowing the Mini and Wii to stay in standby mode without the interior getting too warm. (more…)

Here’s a game with a somewhat silly premise that’s been loads of fun so far. Indeed, according to my Wii, I played four hours yesterday :-) Elebits has a silly backstory and a relatively weak plot, but the gameplay more than makes up for it. (more…)
