Finding “turn shoes”
Monday, October 19th, 2009So, as part of my Halloween get-up, I need some medieval shoes or boots to go with my Templar gear (tunic and cloak, mail, sword and belt). Appropriate period footwear are “turn shoes” which were sewn in a way similar to clothes–inside out and then “turned” rightside out for wear. Unfortunately, turn shoes are both expensive (they’re pretty much all hand-made, and usually hand stitched, as well) and very hard to find. On top of that, turn shoes can’t be repaired when they wear out–and with soles made from the same leather as the uppers, they wear out fast.
