Cooking with Wii?

March 26th, 2007 | by Dan |

Last week, in the GameStop store in the mall, I saw a funny-sounding game with a crazy premise: Cooking Mama is the game, and using the Wiimote to virtually “cook” meals is the wacky idea.cooking_mama.jpgYesterday, during a long shopping spree with my wife, we happened to go by the store again. I suggested that she look at the game and we wound up buying it.We played a couple of recipes last night and it was a lot of fun. They have done a great job of mixing up different types of things you can do with the Wiimote: twisting to turn the over control, shaking to add spices, “stirring” “chopping” “pouring” and more. My wife made a soup (peeling the vegetables with a “peeler” motion was really funny) and then we did a head-to-head competition making custard. One silly part was getting the custard out of the mold. You have to turn it over and shake the Wiimote just the right amount. Too gently and the custard doesn’t come out, too hard and it breaks.Overall, this is a fun game. Maybe not as fun as Elebits (which is a bit more of a “guy game”) but I think it’s a keeper

Hi Joel! Long time no see :-)

Yes we’re having a blast with the Wii. It’s a lot of fun… Even Jennifer (not generally a video game afficianado) plays by herself at times.

    Good to hear from you.
